A People’s Democratic Party member of the House of Reps Kingsley Chinda has called for the impeachment of President Muhammad Buhari over the payment of $496 million to the United States of America for the purchase of 12 super tocano fighter jets.
The row started after the Speaker of the House Yakubu Dogara read the letter from the president to the House of Reps on the matter.
Those in opposition over the matter contended that the move was unconstitutional.
The Pentagon last year August notified the U.S. Congress of the sale to Nigeria of the 12 Super Tucano A-29 planes and weapons worth $593 million, needed for the fight against the militant group, Boko Haram.
The package included thousands of bombs and rockets.
Each of the fighter jets costs over $10 million and the deal was earlier put aside after the bombing of 170 refugees by the Nigerian Air force which was described as a mistake.
