A leading cleric in Kaduna, Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Gumi has expressed displeasure over the embarrassing treatment of the former Kaduna state governor Ramalan Yero by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC when he was pictured carrying offence inscription card that is circulated in the public.
Sheikh Gumi spoke on Thursday while delivering the daily Ramadan Tafsir at Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna.
He lamented saying “This is a big mistake”. He added that the governor had erred for allowing this embarrassment on his integrity as a former governor.
“He should have resisted, tore the card and be pictured in a tussle with them insisting that he is innocent”
He expressed bitterness saying that not even democracy is truly being implemented in the country
as people’s rights are recklessly abused for selfish interests.
On the issue of indictment of individuals of corruption, the respected cleric stated that not even President Muhammadu Buhari would have survived corruption charges and become Nigeria’s president. Supporting his point, he added that even former President Shehu Shagari is of higher integrity than President Buhari can ever be.
He said the duo should be placed on a scale of corruption to determine who has actually looted government resources.
Former Kaduna governor was arraigned recently by the EFCC and accused of defrauding the state of seven hundred million naira. Yero is now being detained in Kaduna prison pending further actions by the commission.
