As the 2019 elections and campaign activities are heating up, more dangerous trends are becoming glaring in Kaduna state where hate speeches are employed as means of inciting the public against certain individuals by the state’s politicians.
Recently, a right hand man to the Kaduna state governor, Hon Yusuf Zailani declared that he was going to pay a whooping five million naira reward to anyone who could bring to him the confirmed plucked hair of Senator Shehu Sani, the Senator representing the North Central senatorial zone of the state.
Zailani who is a member of the Kaduna state House of Assembly representing Igabi West made the statement at an APC political gathering in Rigasa, Kaduna recently.
“I will pay the sum of five million naira to whoever brings to me the confirmed plucked hair of Senator Shehu Sani” he said.
This is in furtherance of an earlier similar statement in a separate gathering made by his boss the Kaduna state governor Nasir el-Rufai, angered by Sani’s refusal to support his planned procurement of foreign bank loan requiring approval from the Senate.
El-Rufai called on his supporters to shave the hair off Senator Shehu Sani’s head and the beard off Senator Sulaiman Hunkuyi’s face, the Senator representing Kaduna North senatorial zone.
The state governor is in a very bitter battle with all the three senators of the state, all of who belong to the ruling All Progressive Congress APC.
Senator Shehu Sani is known to be keeping the Afro hair style on his head for years since his days as an activist before joining politics.
Commentators and concerned politicians have condemned the hate speech as a threat to the life of the senator.
