Lest he gets misconstrues, the leading Sunni scholar Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Gumi, belonging to the Izalah group, stated that even drug addicts will not mistake him for being a Shia member as his roots are well known to all. He then called on president Muhammadu Buhari to obey court order and release the Shia leader, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky.
Dr. Gumi warned that the continued antagonism on the Shia leader and his followers is only making them popular and founding sympathy for the group.
Dr. Gumi stated this during the daily Ramadan Tafsir recently at the Sultan Bello Mosque Kaduna.
He warned that the numerical value of the Shia group has increased as a result of the suppression against them and the continued detention of Sheikh Zakzaky despite court’s injunction for his unconditional release.
He insisted that he would not desist from speaking out against the wrongdoings of the president because it is their duty as religious leaders to say the truth no matter how bitter.
Dr. Gumi also said that there is no justification for the continued detention of the former NSA chief, Sambo Dasuki.
He explained that Dasuki only acted on orders by his boss the former President Goodluck Jonathan who sourced the money and passed it to beneficiaries through Dasuki.
The outspoken cleric dared President Buhari to arrest and detain the former president
Jonathan for the said looted arms procurement funds if he is truly fighting corruption and not Dasuki.
