Abdulmumin Giwa

Today Wednesday 4th of April, 2018 being the 78th day since the daily sit-out calling for the immediate and unconditional release of the leader of Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, security operatives took over the Unity Fountain at the early hours of the day.

Insisting that they were acting on the orders of the police commissioner, the police stopped members of the movement from entering the the Fountain where the daily events take place.

They were challenged by the organizer of the sit-out who is also the convener of the Concerned Nigerians Mr. Deji Adeyanju who said “the commissioner of police is not the owner of the Unity Fountain, the Nigerian people are the owners of the Unity Fountain”.

He stated that Nigerians cannot be cowed or intimidated with impunity and misuse of power.

He added that the sit-out will continue as usual until the Nigerian government releases the leader of the Islamic Movement.

The sit-out has become a place of reaching out to the Movement and expressing support by a lot of people that are not pleased with the mistreatment meted on the Movement’s leader and his followers.

The activities at the Unity Fountain have been exposing the acts of crimes against humanity committed by the regime which launched genocide against the Movement.

This persistent activities displease the Nigerian government which is seeking ways to blackmail the Movement and alienate it in the country.

More so, the sit-out has encouraged massive protests and rallies especially the national protest that takes place every Wednesday where tens of thousands of members of the Movement participate.

Tens of thousands of protesters staged a massive rally today at the Federal Secretariat calling for immediate release of movement’s leader.

Releasing Sheikh Zakzaky Will Relieve Nigerian Government

By Abdulmumin Giwa

The continued detention of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria by the government, even as a court of competent jurisdiction, the Federal High Court, has ordered his immediate and unconditional release is raising more concerns from Nigerians.

Recently a renowned activist, Honourable Ebenezer Oyetakin, has called for the immediate and unconditional release of the Sheikh by the Nigerian government.

“I strongly call for his immediate and unconditional release, free Zakzaky now” he stated on his Facebook wall.

Oyetakin added that the revered Sheikh is not an enemy of Nigeria and can never be while he described him as a patriot that deserves more than any politician in Nigeria can lay claim to.

He further explained that his claims are based on his personal contact with the Sheikh for which he stated that he will continue to call and work for his unconditional release.

He further debunked negative projections against the Sheikh describing him as more deserving advocate of unity and peaceful coexistence of the country.

He finally advised the Nigerian government that it will lose nothing by setting Sheikh Zakzaky free and ”

seeking peace with him for the injustice meted out on him and his followers “.

Presidency Denies Attack On Buhari In Abuja Mosque

By Terhemba Daka,

No right thinking person will contemplate such action

The presidency yesterday dismissed as untrue, reports that President Muhammadu Buhari was attacked last Friday and escaped being lynched by suspected irate members of the Shiites Movement of Nigeria at the National Mosque, Abuja.

It said that no right-thinking group will contemplate such an action considering the security implication of doing so.

Specifically, online reports had it that the president, who came to the mosque for the second time since his inauguration in 2015 for the wedding of his brother-in-law, Hamza, was attacked by a large group of the irate worshippers immediately after the end of the Friday prayers.

But other reports said that the security operatives attached to the president, sensing the danger, quickly warded off the attackers and swiftly created a barricade, which provided a shield for the president.

The worshippers, who it was gathered, were shouting, “you are a murderer, an unjust leader and hypocrite,” were blocked by the security operatives, even as the members insisted “we’re ready to die, you can kill us all.”

It would seem that the irate protesters had foreknowledge of the president’s coming to the mosque, and had mobilized against him. Julius Berger had earlier in the day erected high barricades around the mosque, which gave out that the president was going to attend Hamza’s we

However, reacting to The Guardian’s inquiry via telephone yesterday, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, described ‎the attack on President Buhari as untrue.

“People don’t notice what has been going on around them. The Shiites have been doing this in about five selected mosques in FCT for several months.

“So, there’s nothing extraordinary about it. They’ve always chanted for the freedom of their leader in several mosques over a long period of time for several months.

“So, the fact that the president was in the national mosque didn’t make any difference. They would have done it without him anyway, because they have done it every Friday. They (Shiites) were just chanting slogans.‘’

Shehu Sani Spits Fire

By Abdulmumin Giwa

Following widespread accusations against the Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial Zone Shehu Sani by the enraged Kaduna state government claiming that the Senator is standing between the masses and infrastructural developments in the state for disallowing the governor Nasiru El-Rufai to access a loan of $350 million, the Senator speaks even tough against the loan acquisition.

Speaking on a Hausa political program on Invecta FM Radio in Kaduna, Senator Shehu Sani says Kaduna state is second only to Lagos state on the list of indebted states in the country with a loan of $200 million. Hence, the state does not deserve to seek additional loan of an amount even more than the current liability.

The Senator explained that the loan is not in the interest of the state as the masses will be left to face its repercussions for about ten years to come while those who access it will be enjoying with their friends and families.

He asked if any of the masses was aware that the governor was going to access the loan before now that it is being spread around that he is against the development of the state.

He added that the state has benefitted from free funds and allocations which nothing about them has been made public by the governor. But now that the Assembly has refused the state access to loan it is being mischievously spread everywhere.

“Let it be written that I Senator Sheh

u Sani has refused to allow the state governor to access a loan of $350 million because it is not in the interest of the masses” he said, adding that they should wait for another senator when he is out of there to come and give them access to the loan.

POLITICS: Saraki, Tinubu’s humiliation will make Buhari’s re-election tough –Shehu Sani

The Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial district, Shehu Sani has warned that the humiliation of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, the All Progressives Congress (APC) national leader, Bola Tinubu, by the federal government, will make the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari a tough bid.

Sani who spoke with Saturday Sun in an exclusive interview in Lagos declared that the ruling APC failed to accord Saraki and TInubu the respect they deserve for their contributions to the 2015 victory of the present government

His words: “I must be frank with you, Tinubu has endured a lot of humiliation under the present administration. He was never much consulted, never much recognised as somebody who sacrificed his energy, time and resources to bring the party to where it is.

“It is rather unfortunate that after the party won and the government established, some people started calling some people criminals, thieves and people of questionable character.

“The South-West political leaders who contributed to the victory of the party have been treated with disdain and contempt. That is in inimical to the interest of the South-West.”

Continuing, the federal lawmaker stated that other party leaders including the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, suffered a similar fate from name-callers, even as he claimed that the five former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors who dumped their party to work for APC in 2015 have since been abandoned

“The five PDP governors who abandoned Jonathan and joined the APC have been despised and treated with contempt.”

This, he added, also affects other leaders and parts of the country whom he said also feel abandoned.
Going down memory lane, the rights activist blamed the development on lack of ideology on the part of the APC and the lackadaisical attitude of President Buhari. “The APC was not formed on ideology. It is only a convergence for people from different political backgrounds.

“The issue was how to seize the vehicle from PDP and after seizing the vehicle, the problem now became, the direction the vehicle will go. You can see the contradiction in the party which has cracked into a cold war, and sometimes, hot war” he stressed.

Sani who further blamed President Buhari said: “The president has allowed the crisis to move from infancy to where it is now. Nobody could solve the crisis except the president because every body is a party to the crisis.”

According to him, Buhari preferred aligning with APC governors who he described as part of the crisis. He however expressed happiness that the Tinubu reconciliation committee was already looking into the crisis with the aim of resolving it.

The lawmaker however warned that it will be a great disaster for Buhari to jettison the recommendations of the committee as the party needs healing ahead of the 2019 polls.
